Is a wedding first look right for you?
Should you do a First Look at your wedding or not? There are lots of ideas out there for weddings and the choices can be overwhelming.
A first look is a newer idea. Maybe it appeals to you, but you have family trying to sway you into “keeping it traditional”. Maybe you have no idea what a first look is. You are in the right place! We are here to explain it to you along with how we view first looks as wedding photographers.
A first look is when the bride and groom meet in a private place before the ceremony. The brides walks up to the groom and then the groom turns around and gets to see her for the first time. We are in favor of first looks and here are the reasons why:
- It allows you to see each others reactions up close and personal without the entire guest list watching!
- You can cry and it would be private, you can hug and kiss them, give each other encouragement, share a prayer or whatever comes to mind during this time. It is time just for the two of you! Well…. And your photographers of course who are capturing these emotions for you!
- You can go right into couples portrait pictures instead of waiting until after the ceremony!
- Your hair and make up is fresh, because they were just done! You are full of excitement and your smiles are big! After the wedding, your hair has fallen, you might have cried off your make up and you are starting to get tired and sometimes it shows in your photos.
- You have a built in backup in case life happens such as a rain shower and you can’t get photos done! If you save all the photos until after the ceremony and its storming… well there isn’t much we can do about that, other than take all the phots inside. If you schedule a first look and it rains, you still have the chance of catching some sunshine after the wedding! You will have a back up portrait time!
- Photos after the wedding won’t take as long and you will get to your reception faster! And your guests won’t have to sit hungry and wait for you!
We love the flow of a wedding first look on your special day that includes a first look. We also love the privacy and the ability for couples to share a moment and speak to one another before the wedding. We did not do this approach in our own wedding and we both regret that choice!
I hope this helps you see the ins and outs of wedding first looks! Congratulations on your wedding!
